When we first started Rage Against the Media, the idea was to hold rallies prior to the November 2012 elections that would highlight the outrageous complicity of the media with the leftist agenda and their willingness to protect this administration no matter what. We were pretty sure, though, that Mitt Romney would win, and that RATM would play a role in ensuring that his policies would get a fair hearing in the media.
Boy were WE wrong!
In the time since then, we have refocused our efforts, have explored various tactics for fighting the dishonesty of the media and are hatching still more. And I’ll be writing about them shortly. But in the meantime, here’s what we have coming with the update of our website!
1) Aggregation of Media Bias reporting
There are a few organizations that study, document, chronicle, analyze and in other ways expose media bias and corruption. At the top of that list is, of course, Media Research Center, including Newsbusters and MRCTV. Accuracy in Media also is a media watchdog, and Truth Revolt also keeps an eye on this. Many other new media sites also chronicle and report on the dishonesty of the media. What we’re doing on our new RATM site is aggregating reports on media bias. Why bother, you might ask. We KNOW they’re biased.
Well, here’s why. First of all, incredibly, not everyone does believe that the news is atrociously lopsided for the left, and against the right. This will provide one-stop-shopping for your evidence needs. Second of all, the aggregation will provide a database so we can monitor changes in coverage where they occur. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, this information will help us select targets for activism, both in the short term and long term, and for our support where indicated. As we fight for honest, objective journalism, both carrots and sticks have their role to play as tools in our arsenal!
2) Aggregation of the REAL news, by topic
RATM is an activist organization, and to that end we do what we can to argue against the mainstream media’s dishonest and deceitful propagandizing with factual reporting. Wherever the lies are disseminated, we fight back with the truth. One of our tactics is the Facebook Flashmob, described here. We also do “slow-burns,” and generally advocate taking a few minutes every day to do a circuit through the mainstream media sites and post factual articles to alert people to the fact that they are duped, and that the faux-reality crafted for them by those they at least once trusted is utterly and deliberately false.
To that end, we will be aggregating factual pieces by topic. For example, we are already collecting stories on the “Acute Lies:” topics of the current immigration crisis, the War in Israel, ISIS, Benghazi, Obamacare, the IRS scandal and many more. In addition, we’re collating the best information on the longer-term “BIG LIES:” the utterly failed War on Poverty, the false numbers about this “recovery,” and other relevant topics where it turns out that everything that “everybody knows” isn’t actually so. So whether you want the best information just for your own edification or for using as artillery against the lies and deceit of the lapdog propagandists, our site will be the place to come.
3) Distributed Aggregation
Our Facebook page has almost 8,000 members and is a dynamic, extremely well-informed and engaged community of people who care deeply about current events and the well-being of this country. In addition, we all are dedicated to the truth, to factual reporting and weeding out the lies, regardless of the source. Our page has come to be a trusted news source in its own right, and we work very hard to ensure that everything posted is relevant to the topic of media dishonesty, and is truthful. We have articles as well as posts that are obviously opinion pieces, and our participants are discerning consumers of journalism generally.
What we will be doing with the new website is offering a mechanism for members to link articles that they post to Facebook directly to the website as well, thus allowing for distributed aggregation of information. We’ll be rolling this out among a team of volunteers very soon!
4) Activism: how YOU can “Be the Media!”
In our role as activists, we are always hatching new ideas for fighting the media’s lies. Of course, we battle the source directly, but because of the pervasive effect that they have with crafting this fake reality, it’s not enough. We walk among people whose view of the world is warped, wrong, and in so many ways divorced from reality, in part as a direct result of the propagandizing of the media. So while we combat the media it also is up to each of us to do what we can in our own lives, to somehow pierce the bubble that the false narratives of the media has created. RATM will be offering a wide array of ways each of us can “Be the Media” and be a voice of truth.
Each of these new features are part of our mission of “FIGHTING FOR HONEST JOURNALISM” and of empowering citizen activists. Stay tuned for our new release within the next 2 weeks!
