On Saturday, August 17, Los Angeles heard the other side of the story with our Rage Against the Media rally on the lawn of the Federal Building.  We were out in force from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Karen Siegemund, the creator and director of RATM lined up a major list of speakers:

Tony Katz Mark Isler
Kira Davis David Spady
Dwight Schultz Eric Golub
Ann-Marie Murrell Jim Hoft
Kender MacGowen

Andrew Marcus.

Gina Loudon

Evan Sayet

In an interview with Dr. Karen Siegemund by Politichicks’ Anne-Marie Murrell, Karen talked about what she hoped to gain from the rally, as well as why she has donated such a large part of her life toward fighting the mainstream media.

What were the objectives of the rally?

To create a greater awareness of how duped we all are by the media.
To spark skepticism in passers-by about the truth of what they’re being told.
To post signs along Wilshire that refer to specific issues about which the media has been less than truthful
To inform, inspire and entertain all the attendees
To empower everyone who attended the event hoping they left feeling motivated to help fight for honest media.
To enlist more citizen activists and find strategies for achieving responsible, honest objective media.

When asked about her frustrations about getting the message about media bias Dr. Siegemund had this to say:  “It has become abundantly clear that our mainstream media is doing all it can to further the leftist, progressive agenda and to ridicule, slander and silence the alternative, conservative voice.  Regardless of our message, our messaging, the quality of our candidates and efforts at campaigning, as long as the media has a stranglehold on the message, our efforts are impeded.”

What  if media bias were suddenly to disappear? In such a world, how would America look and act politically?  The answer is, approximately like Texas.  More specifically, if media bias were to disappear, according to the analysis, then America would think and vote like any region that voted around 56-43 percent for John McCain in the last presidential election.

Quoting Siegemund: “Ronald Reagan famously said ‘…the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so…’  We all know this is true; the reason our liberal friends are so misinformed is, in large part, due to the media which creates a false “reality” in their determination to advance progressivism.  And sadly, they are effective.”

“These same liberal friends believe that all the ills we are suffer are due to previous administrations; ‘It’s George Bush’s fault’, that Republicans are in the way of progress, that Obama is some sort of Messiah, that the Tea Party is a collection of racist haters, that whatever happened in Benghazi was unfortunate but that far worse happened under George Bush, that George Zimmerman killed an innocent young boy just out for iced tea, that Obamacare will cure all the flaws of a greedy insurance system and will provide us all with superior health care, that Joe Biden is an intellectual titan while Sarah Palin is an immoral ignoramus who incites violence, that government programs solve problems and private enterprise is the root of all evil, and that in short, Republicans are evil and Democrats are the saviors of the world.   Of course the Left claims they are ‘fair and balanced’ and Fox News is the evil one.”

Dr. Siegemund also said she knows people who actually believe that Fox is the evil source and that only the media bias toward progressivism is ‘fair and balanced’.  Not so hard to understand, really.

Until we combat the deliberately fabricated web of misinformation that is crafted every single day with the sole purpose of ensuring that only one voice is heard, until we claw our way to journalism that is objective and even-handed, there is no way that conservative causes, policies or candidates will be able to succeed.

Rage Against the Media is fighting to achieve honest and objective reporting.  We do this through a number of tactics, one of which is staging protests and rallies.  In addition to our inspiring roster of speakers, we were joined by the live band “The Blacklist”. We also presented a number of awards for truth in journalism.
