Editors of The Associated Press condemned the White House’s refusal to give photojournalists real access to President Obama, who prefers to circulate press release-style pictures taken by his own paid photographers.
writes Robby Soave in today’s Daily Caller column AP editors: Obama relies on staged propaganda photos
The administration which crowed about being the most transparent in history – and which was even presented with an award for transparency in a closed-door ceremony, an irony even recognized by HuffPo – has, in yet another nod to this irony, increased its opacity. The press, having proven their complicity in propagating the narrative out of the White House, now only publishes photos provided from the White House. One might ask why this president doesn’t trust the sycophantic press to the extent that they aren’t allowed to take their own photographs, but really, it’s in keeping with their fundamental world-view. Everything this administration does is about fostering dependency (Obamacare isn’t about care but about control and encroaching reliance on government subsidies, just as one of countless examples) and undermining individual pursuits and effort. It’s the Leftist way: without government, we are nothing.
According to the Daily Caller, AP executive editor Kathleen Carroll said “This works because newspapers use these handout photos.”
“Carroll advised newspaper editors who were present to stop using the White House’s preferred photos in their own stories, according to … attendees.”
Not holding my breath on this.
