Rage Against the Media was created as an activist organization that fights against the lies and the liars in the media. And while on occasion we do this in the streets with rallies and protests, by far our dominant tactic is to head over to “enemy territory,” the facebook pages of mainstream media networks, and right there, among their duped devotees, we post articles or facts that set the record straight, or else we demand answers or stories that the media chooses to withhold from those who turn to them for actual reporting.
But we’re also expanding our twitter presence. So for those who haven’t yet waded into the twitter-verse, we offer this guide.
First, as far as setting up an account and so on, here are some links that explain it better than we could.
This from Michael Hyatt- also step-by step intro
Pretty thin on specifics, but a good overview
OK, so now that you have your twitter account set up, and you have a few followers, join in RATM’s fight for objective media, and against the dishonest, depraved disgustingness of the MSM. The key to having an impact on twitter is to
1) make your voice LOUD by having a lot of followers, and 2) help build a tide of voices using hashtags. In our case, of course, we want a TSUNAMI of posts with our hashtag #RATMedia and to gain visibility for our efforts. The more voices we are, the harder we are to ignore, and with twitter, it’s very easy to create tidal waves by adding your voice.
Here’s how you can help:
1) follow @mediarage, the “handle” of Rage Against the Media.
2) every day, see what @mediarage has tweeted, and go ahead and retweet – just click “Retweet” under the tweet
3) find some new followers – just type in the names of people or organizations you like into the search box at the top, and “follow” them! You can also go through who @mediarage follows, and follow them. Also twitter has some other ways of finding who you might want to follow. And we’ll all make sure to follow each other!
4) find the list that @mediarage has created of MSM twitter accounts and go through those for some tweets you can reply to. For example, if @NBC has some fluff piece, you can “reply” to it and say, for example, “@NBC how about reporting the REAL NEWS instead of this fluff! We still want the truth about #Benghazi!” just as an example. The @NBC directs it to NBC and anyone following them will see it, and the #Benghazi is a way of tagging – people searching on this keyword will find your post and can retweet it themselves
5) wherever you see posts you like, retweet them
6) along the right hand side are those hashtags that are “trending” – go through some of those and retweet ones you like, or come up with your own! One great thing about twitter is it is a perfect venue for snark, and the cleverer and more succinct, the better.
7) when you find articles, tweet those. If, for example, you find an article about real unemployment numbers, tweet that at the MSM- for example: “Hey @NBC @CBS @ABC how about reporting the REAL unemployment numbers instead of WH BS? ” then the article URL
8) adding pictures can draw more attention to your post.
9) if you’re tweeting about the media, please use the #RATMedia hashtag so we can find each other. Also, search for the #RATMedia hashtag in the search box at the top of the screen, and retweet (RT) any of those posts that you like. And of course, we’ll all retweet what YOU tweet! This is where we create the tsunami!!
10) when RATM has specific social media campaigns – flashmobs, targeting particularly depraved journalists for example – help us out by tweeting, retweeting and generally creating a big enough ruckus to have an impact.
EACH of us has the power to change minds. And EACH of us has the ability to add a voice to the revolution against the destructive lying media.
It’s up to us to speak up, speak out, BE the media ourselves. And twitter is a powerful platform for making change!
